Dear Carla,
I want to say how much we enjoyed hearing Rene speak. I had read the testimonials of others who heard him, but didn't foresee the extent to which he was able to engage us in his life journey and willing to share both his vulnerabilities and his triumphs. Many motivational speakers describe their message as "personal," "open" and "from the heart."
In Rene's case, his message is so personal that you come away feeling as though you have a new friend and so open that you know that most of your own personal challenges pale by comparison. His message DOES speak to our hearts. It reassures us that even as frail and vulnerable humans, we can persevere and prevail.
He was the final speaker for our week-long conference and I believe that he was uniquely prepared to send our audience away with a truer understanding of why:
(1) We should never give up on our dreams;
(2) The small gifts we give to each other are so important; and
(3) We should never take for granted that we live in a land of plenty and opportunity.
When dealing with well-known speakers in the past, I've learned that they can also come with a demanding attitude. That made me especially appreciate that Rene's personal grace and unassuming demeanor make him pleasant company!
